罂粟（学名：Papaver somniferum），即鸦片罂粟（英语：Opium poppy），是罂粟科植物，是制取鸦片的主要原料，同时其提取物也是多种镇静剂的来源，如吗啡、蒂巴因、可待因、罂粟碱、那可丁。学名“somniferum”的意思是“催眠”，反映出其具有麻醉性。罂粟的种子罂粟籽是重要的食物产品，其中含有对健康有益的油脂，可用于面包、饼干中烘焙，或制成酱料，使用于沙拉中，也可制成罂粟籽油。而罂粟花绚烂华美，是一种很有价值的观赏植物。

因罂粟拥有制作毒品的危险性，却又有制作药物及生产罂粟籽的价值，故在世界很多国家以法律规范化地种植，未经许可种植者视为犯罪行为。

Papaver somniferum, the opium poppy, is a species of flowering plant in the family Papaveraceae. It is the species of plant from which opium and poppy seeds are derived and is a valuable ornamental plant, grown in gardens. Its native range is probably the eastern Mediterranean, but is now obscured by ancient introductions and cultivation.
