Luckily, Otto learned of the plan and calmly  marched back to Rome to run John XII out, replacing him with Leo VIII.

John XII was well-known for being an incredibly  unpleasant man. He acted against ideas of decency, and if anyone dared speak out against  him they were blinded or castrated.
