A bathyscaphe (/ˈbæθᵻskeɪf/ or /ˈbæθᵻskæf/) is a free-diving self-propelled deep-sea submersible, consisting of a crew cabin similar to a bathysphere, but suspended below a float rather than from a surface cable, as in the classic bathysphere design.
