独立媒体或称另类媒体是指在近年出现的非主流、新兴媒体，由民间自发而成，撰写个人角度的民间报导，一般强调为弱势发声、推动社会进步的。

包括以文本及视频为主的独立媒体网站（若只由个人，不组成群体，则自己作部落客），或以声音为主的网络电台（若只由个人，不组成群体，则自己作播客）。

Alternative media are media that differ from established or dominant types of media in terms of their content, how they are produced or how they are distributed. Alternative media take many forms including print, audio, video, Internet and street art. Some examples include the counter-culture zines of the 1960s, ethnic and indigenous media such as the First People’s television network in Canada (later rebranded Aboriginal Peoples Television Network), and more recently online open publishing journalism sites such as Indymedia.
