A photonic laser thruster (PLT) is an amplified laser thruster that generates thrust directly from the momentum of photons stimulated by a laser. Because of the amplification, the photonic laser thruster is at least 1,000 times more energy efficient than photonic thrusters based on conventional photonic propulsion, such as solar sails. Therefore, the photonic laser thruster can potentially revolutionize spacecraft maneuvering and space transportation.
