Diffuse noxious inhibitory control

Diffuse Noxious Inhibitory Controls (DNIC) refers to an endogenous pain modulatory pathway which has often been described as "pain inhibits pain". It occurs when response from a painful stimulus is inhibited by another, often spatially distant, noxious stimulus.
