扶养比率是描述从事劳动生产和不会从事劳动生产的人口的比例，这个比率是用作计算劳动人口的压力。一般而言，不会从事劳动生产的人口是指15岁以下及65岁以上的人，从事劳动生产的人口是指15至64岁的人，扶养比率的公式为不会从事劳动生产的人口除以从事劳动生产的人口再乘以100%。多个已发展国家，包括日本，都面对人口老化的问题，扶养比率亦因此而上升，造成了一系列的社会问题，例如基层医疗成本大增及劳动力不足等。
