鱼尾狮（Merlion）是一种虚构的鱼身狮头的动物。它于1964年由当时的Van Kleef水族馆馆长Fraser Brunner先生所设计的。两年后被新加坡旅游局采用作为标志，一直沿用到1997年。而这期间，鱼尾狮已成为新加坡的代表，如同法国的巴黎铁塔或美国的自由女神像。

鱼尾狮狮头的设计灵感来自关于新加坡历史的一个传说。根据《马来纪年》的记载，公元11世纪时一位来自三佛齐,名叫圣尼罗乌达玛的王子在前往麻六甲的途中来到了的新加坡。他一登陆就看到一只神奇的野兽，随从告诉他那是一只狮子。他于是为新加坡取名「新加坡拉」（Singapura，在梵文中意即“狮子城”）。而鱼尾则是因为新加坡是一个海岛，她的一切都跟海密切相关。鱼代表着该国的过去，从前新加坡只是一个渔村，是一个海之镇。狮子则有双重含义，它代表新加坡原本的名字，意味着狮子城，同时也象征新加坡在当今全球经济的力量。

The Merlion (Malay: Singa-Laut) is a well known marketing icon of Singapore depicted as mythical creature with a lion's head and a body of a fish. It is widely used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore.

Merlions do not feature in any local folklore or myths of Singapore, and was only used in Singapore initially as the logo for the tourism board. The Merlion is similar to the heraldic sea-lion which occurs in a number of different artistic traditions.
