Amphipols

Amphipols (a portmanteau of amphiphilic polymers) are a class of polymers and oligomers which are able to keep membrane proteins soluble in water without the need for conventional small molecule surfactants. High molecular weight congeners of amphipols have high affinity for hydrophobic particles.
