It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality has a population of 3,088 (30 June 2015) and covers an area of 328.79 square kilometres (126.95 sq mi) of which 41.52 km (16.03 sq mi) is water. The population density is 10.75 inhabitants per square kilometre (27.8/sq mi).
