绝热指数（英语：adiabatic index）是指等压热容（）和等容（等体积）热容（）的比值，也称为热容比（英语：heat capacity ratio）或绝热膨胀系数（英语：isentropic expansion factor），常用符号或表示。后者常在化学工程领域中使用，在机械工程领域中，会使用字母表示绝热指数：

In thermal physics and thermodynamics, the heat capacity ratio or adiabatic index or ratio of specific heats or Poisson constant, is the ratio of the heat capacity at constant pressure () to heat capacity at constant volume (). It is sometimes also known as the isentropic expansion factor and is denoted by (gamma)(for ideal gas) or (kappa)(isentropic exponent, for real gas).
