防止及惩治危害种族罪公约（Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide）已经被联合国大会在1948年12月9日采为联合国大会第260号决议的内容，且已经在1951年1月12日正式生效。

在英文中，本公约是第一次以「genocide」这个字作为法律用语，这个字是由「genos」（种族）和「-cide」（杀害）两个部分组合而成。

The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 9 December 1948 as General Assembly Resolution 260. The convention entered into force on 12 January 1951. It defines genocide in legal terms, and is the culmination of years of campaigning by lawyer Raphael Lemkin. All participating countries are required to prevent and punish actions of genocide, whether carried out in war or in peacetime. The number of states that have ratified the convention is currently 147.
