上将是军阶之一种，通常为高级军事将领。

最初，上将指善于作战的将领。《史记·孙子吴起列传》：“（孙膑语）百里而趣利者蹶上将，五十里而趣利者军半至。”

后来在中国古代的小说中，上将亦可用来称呼武艺高强的将领。比如《三国演义》第五回：太守韩馥曰：“吾有上将潘凤，可斩华雄。”
