清代陈璋根据明代沈度原作瑞应麒麟图临摹而成的《榜葛剌进麒麟图》。原作描绘郑和在公元1414年（永乐十二年）由孟加剌带来的长颈鹿。

麒麟，亦作骐驎，是中国古代神话传说中的神兽，常与龙马混淆。中国古代用麒麟象征祥瑞，公兽为麒，母兽为麟，据说能活两千年。性情温和，身上虽有可攻击敌人的武器，但不伤人畜，不践踏昆虫花草，故称为仁兽。

麒麟的首似龙，形如马，状比鹿，尾若牛尾，背上有五彩毛纹，腹部有黄色毛，口能吐火，声音如雷。相传只在太平盛世或世有圣人时才会出现。汉许慎《说文解字》：“麒，仁兽也，麋身牛尾一角；麐（麟），牝麒也。”

The qilin (Chinese:麒麟; pinyin:qílín) is a mythical hooved chimerical creature known in Chinese and other East Asian cultures, said to appear with the imminent arrival or passing of a sage or illustrious ruler. It is a good omen thought to occasion prosperity or serenity. It is often depicted with what looks like fire all over its body.
