蓝莓，狭义是指一群越橘属越橘亚属青液果组（学名：Cyanococcus）的开花植物，广义上可以包括越橘属中长有蓝色浆果的所有物种。这些种的植物原生于北美洲与东亚，为灌木，高度可从10公分到4公尺；矮小种称为「矮丛蓝莓」（lowbush blueberries），而高大种称为「高丛蓝莓」（highbush blueberries）。叶可为落叶性或长青性，叶形卵圆形到披针形，长1到8公分，宽0.5到3.5公分。花朵为钟形，颜色从白色、桃色到红色都有，有时带有淡淡的绿色调。果实在植物学上是假果，直径5到16公厘，带有喇叭形的冠在末端；一开始呈浅绿色，然后转为红紫色，最后成为蓝色或深紫色，此时成熟可以采收。成熟时带有甜甜的风味，而酸度各异。越橘属中的其他亚属，包括了其他可食用浆果的野生灌木，例如小红莓、山桑子与越橘。蓝莓的产季从每年五月到十月，在七月达最高峰。中国北方出产的笃斯越橘（Vaccinium uliginosum，又称都柿、笃斯）的也常被称作蓝莓。

Blueberries are perennial flowering plants with indigo-colored berries from the section Cyanococcus within the genus Vaccinium (a genus that also includes cranberries, bilberries and grouseberries). Species in the section Cyanococcus are the most common fruits sold as "blueberries" and are native to North America (commercially cultivated highbush blueberries were not introduced into Europe until the 1930s).
