当黑体的温度降低时，黑体辐射曲线峰值会移向较低强度和更长波长的位置。黑体辐射曲线图可以和经典模型瑞利-金斯定律相比较。
黑体辐射的颜色（色度）设根据黑体的温度变化的；这些颜色的轨迹，如上面的CIE1931色彩空间图所示，为普朗克轨迹（或称为黑体轨迹）。

在热力学中，黑体（英语：Black body），旧称绝对黑体，是一个理想化的物体，它能够吸收外来的全部电磁辐射，并且不会有任何的反射与透射。随着温度上升，黑体所辐射出来的电磁波与光线则称做黑体辐射。这个名词在1862年由克希荷夫所提出并引入热力学内。
