西班牙的行政区划依照现行的1978年版《西班牙宪法》第八章规定，分为下列三级：

西班牙原先仅设有省（其边界确立于19世纪中期），1978年版《西班牙宪法》在省之上增设自治区，以因应西班牙各地方在社会与文化上的自主性。《西班牙宪法》第二条承认「民族和地区」的自治权利，并声明「西班牙国家之牢不可破的统一」。西班牙政府将行政和立法权力下放予自治区，各自治区政府负责管理学校、高校、卫生、社会服务、文化与城乡发展，并负责一定程度的治安事务。自治区共有17个，自治区之下共划分为50个省，其中有7个是辖区内仅有一省的「单省自治区」；自治市则有2个（休达、梅利利亚），均位于邻接摩洛哥的地中海沿岸。省及自治市内辖有若干市镇，目前全国共有8118个。西班牙另在地中海拥有3个主权地（Plazas de soberanía），由中央政府直接管治。

In Spain, an autonomous community (Spanish:comunidad autónoma, Basque:autonomia erkidegoa, Catalan:comunitat autònoma, Galician:comunidade autónoma) is a first-level political and administrative division, created in accordance with the Spanish constitution of 1978, with the aim of guaranteeing limited autonomy of the nationalities and regions that comprise the Spanish nation.
