联合国秘书长是联合国秘书处的长官。依照《联合国宪章》，秘书长是由安理会推荐，联合国大会指定的，是这一机构的“行政首长”（《联合国宪章》），负责秘书处的工作，将其认为可能威胁国家和平和安全的任何事项提请安理会关注，并执行安理会、联合国大会和其他主要机构托付的「其它职务」。在世界各国面前，联合国秘书长往往被看作联合国的象征，同时也利用这一身份对争端的各方进行调停。

现任联合国秘书长是来自韩国的潘基文，他于2007年1月1日起担任联合国秘书长一职，任期至2016年12月31日。

The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UNSG) is the head of the United Nations Secretariat, one of the principal organs of the United Nations. The Secretary-General also acts as the de facto spokesperson and leader of the United Nations. Their role is laid out by Chapter XV (Articles 97 to 101) of the United Nations Charter.
