盲打指称的行为是：打字的时候不用看键盘，看稿打字时的视线不用来回于文稿和键盘之间，可使输入的速度增加，无稿直接输入时并可边输入边看显示器较为便利。一般标准的电脑与打字机键盘在字母F、J及九宫格数字键盘（包括计算机及电话机）的数字5会有突点以便于盲打定位之用。

使用罗马字母的文本要达成盲打较为容易，使用汉字的文本则只能在无稿输入时一样简单。选字频繁的输入法，如拼音类（注音、汉语拼音等）由于需耗时间找字，所以几乎无法看稿盲打，需借由输入法软件在智能型输入上的设计来提升盲打效率（如：自然输入法、新酷音输入法等）。其他如拆字体的输入法（常见的有正体中文的仓颉、行列、呒虾米，简体中文的五笔等）由于少选字，较易盲打，但仍有重码可能。
