螺环化合物是一种由单个原子连接两个双环的有机化合物,在自然界中，环的构造基本上可以相同或是不同的,连接两个环之间的原子称为spiroatom(螺原子)，通常是四级碳(又称螺碳)，也可以是硅、磷、砷等。螺原子一般是季碳原子。螺型化合物会利用括号把环数分别写出,环数也包含螺原子本身，而数字小的会在数字大的前面，且中间以点号分离。如下图中所示，A化合物叫做1-溴-3-氯螺环[4.5]癸烷-7-醇、B化合物叫做1-溴-3-氯螺环[3.6]癸烷-7-醇。这种化合物也同时包含了环己烷和环戊烷，叫做螺环[4.5]癸烷。此命名法是由阿道夫·冯·拜尔在所1900年提出。
