本鱼分布于印度太平洋区，包括印度洋中部诸岛、东至夏威夷群岛、向北至日本以及西沙群岛等。

Acanthurus thompsoni is a tropical fish found in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It is commonly known as the Thompson's surgeonfish. It is commercial in aquarium use.
