钻探是利用深部钻探的机械工程技术，以开采地底或者海底自然资源，或者采取地层的剖面实况，截取实体样本，以提供实验以取得相关数据数据等。钻探方法基本上是螺钻法、冲洗法、冲击法（英文：Percussion drill）、旋转法（英文：Rotary drill）、取岩心法（英文：Core drill）、不取岩心法（英文：Non-core drill）、旋转冲击法（英文：Rotary-Percussion drill）、手钻（英文：Hand Auger）、旋叶钻（英文：Flight Auger）、水冲钻（英文：Wash Boring）及黏土切土管（英文：Clay Cutter）等等。根据不同的地形、环境及实际情况，通过观察及评估等等详细规划，再加上判断于限制（包括人力资源及设备等），而决定采用何种钻探方法。
