Kubuntu，是众多Ubuntu分支的一种，它采用KDE Plasma桌面为其缺省桌面环境。它和Ubuntu采用同样的 软件库。基本上，Kubuntu和Ubuntu没有太大的差异，只是缺省桌面系统采用KDE，并非Unity。

根据Kubuntu的Wiki，“Kubuntu的发行乃是为了让那些想用Ubuntu但又不喜欢Unity接口的用户有一个KDE的桌面环境。Kubuntu是建基于Ubuntu的强大而稳定的基础，而且有一个稳定和可预期的发行周期。它将在新版KDE SC发行后发行新版。”

因无法从商业上取得成功，2012年二月Canonical的员工Jonathan Riddell宣布在Kubuntu12.04发行后Canonical将不再资助Kubuntu。。而两个月后，一个赞助许多KDE项目的Blue Systems成为了Kubuntu的新赞助商。

Kubuntu (/kuː.ˈbuːn.tuː/ koo-BOON-too) is an official flavour of the Ubuntu operating system which uses the KDE Plasma Desktop instead of the Unity graphical environment. As part of the Ubuntu project, Kubuntu uses the same underlying systems. Every package in Kubuntu shares the same repositories as Ubuntu, and it is released regularly on the same schedule as Ubuntu.
