Global mobility

In the area of management theories, Global Mobility refers to physical international mobility for work purposes. Global mobility theories address the movements of a range of globally mobile individuals ranging from business expatriates to more recently recognized groups, such as self-initiated expatriates, international business travelers, international commuters, flexpatriates, and short-term assignees. Global Mobility reflects the development in the corporate world, where movement of people across national borders is becoming increasingly common. Different disciplines view global human mobility in their own way. However, they do share a common understanding of global mobility as associated with human movements to a foreign country. Traditionally, this has been described in terms of push and pull forces that drive immigrant labor from less developed countries to more developed countries. Not all global mobility is an outward movement. An increasing number of individuals return to their country of origin. This includes a return movement or repatriation of internationally relocated individuals such as immigrants, refugees, sojourners, retirees, military personnel, international students, or expatriates.
