数字视频录像机又称数字硬盘录像机（Digital Video Recorder即DVR或Personal video recorder即PVR）是一个将影像以数字格式录制到硬盘（HDD）或其他可存储设备的设备，它通常是一个独立机上盒，有时包含刻录影片进各种光盘的刻录机，有的可以用软硬件连接在PC上以便从磁盘编辑和播放视频。一些电子产品制造商也已经开始生产带有内置DVR的电视。

目前DVR也成为保全闭路电视公司主要的记录监视影像的途径，因为它的可保存最大容量远大于过去使用的卡带式影像录放机。

A digital video recorder (DVR) is an electronic device that records video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, SD memory card, SSD or other local or networked mass storage device. The term includes set-top boxes with direct to disk recording, portable media players and TV gateways with recording capability, and digital camcorders. Personal computers are often connected to video capture devices and used as DVRs; in such cases the application software used to record video is an integral part of the DVR. Many DVRs are classified as consumer electronic devices; such devices are sometimes referred to as personal video recorders.
